The second-hand marketplace Users Express Displeasure About Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has revised its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
It has advised users to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Updates
Before the change, the sizes had both one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
